Persuasive Writing Against Duck Shooting By Bree Loloa 11 Year 7
Some people believe that duck shooting is a sport, but others believe that it is cruel and worthless. I believe that it is not right to shoot ducks and that it should be banned.
Duck shooting should be banned because it is cruel. Some ducks are left there to die slowly and painfully after being shot. RSPCA Victoria president Mr Hugh Wirth said, "Every duck season, many birds are inevitably wounded and are not retrieved by shooters. Often they are left for dead to endure an inhumane, painful and lingering death; sometimes drowning in water and their own blood". I think shooters just go duck shooting because they think it's fun. Then they don't go to find injured ducks which means they have to die in a slow and painful way.
Another reason why duck shooting should be banned is because it is unnecessary. People could go fishing, shoot clay pigeons or do target practice at a gun range. Vet Elizabeth Kiowa said, "People could go fishing or shoot rats and possums but they should not be violating ducks". Elizabeth Kiowa is saying that people don't need to shoot innocent animals.
Duck shooting should also be banned because ducks are not pests. Ducks are not like other animals and they don't destroy New Zealand forests or birds. Environ- mental scientist and professor Richard Kingsford said, "Ducks are not pests they are not like possums, rats, mice or wild cats and they don't hurt our native forests, fauna, flora or birds".
So, ducks haven't done anything bad that has or would affect our environment. Shot ducks are often left to die slowly. Altogether, duck shooting should be banned in New Zealand because this activity is cruel and unnecessary and because ducks are not pests. Bree Loloa Kea 2
DUCK SHOOTING
Persuasive Writing Sean McGrath Many people believe that duck shooting is cruel and worthless. However hunters think its a great sport and a good way of getting a feed. I believe it is a great sport that does not warrant the disapproval of others.
Hunting was introduced for a great way of putting a meal on the table, and over the years it has been passed down generations for the great way of getting a feed. “In the bible it says God has made everything good for man to eat and to wear their skins. Whenever we eat beef, we eat chicken, we have to kill to eat. But at the same time hunting is a sport. I would say most hunters are Christian men” Luke Scott ( athlete) said. I believe that if God gave us carnivorous teeth then he wanted all animals to be available for man to eat.
Many people do many things each year as a way of life. “ Millions of Americans each year use our national forests to go hiking, fishing, hunting, camping and canoeing” Ric Keller has said. So a normal part of life should not be taken away.
Duck shooting is not cruel compared to how cruel nature can be. I believe that duck shooting is not a cruel sport. Nature is cruel, animals attacking animals and leaving them to suffer for days. And if people have never seen it in real life then they can’t really criticise it.
When people eat chicken they are eating something that has been held in a prison for animals. At least with duck shooting a duck could live a good life and grow right up and sometimes die of age. People say that over 200,000 ducks, geese and swan die a year but I would say how can they tell whether the ducks have been shot or killed by a disease or even by their predators?
Duck hunters are the best habitants for ducks and wetland animals. They create the safest homes for wetland animals for the 48 weeks that ducks are not getting shot at. I believe that Duck hunters are the best habitants as they plant trees for cover and spray and cut out ponds for wetland animals. Therefore duck hunters are more enviro-friendly than ‘greenies’.
So, duck shooting is a great sport that should be considered as useful and fun. It is not as cruel as nature and is a way of life for many people in New Zealand.
The Negative Influences of T.V. Persuasive WritingBy Ryan Chen
Over the years, t.v. content has evolved from having a mere entertainment purpose to having a very important part in people's daily lives. Now there are funny shows and shows with violent and sexual content. While a group of people feel that t.v. shouldn't be content – controlled, another group of people believe that to an extent, t.v. should be content-controlled. I believe that free-to-air television should be content- controlled.
T.V's hazardous effects towards young children, teenagers and adults have become more so over the years, making children perhaps more violent and teenagers (as well as adults) more obese than normal. Tests done by the HARVARD School of Public Health indicate: ' T.V is one of the leading reasons of obesity in kids and adults.'As well as peer pressure from school, kids receive influence from T.V too. According to tests done by the U.S National Institute of Health (NIH) after extensive t.v. viewing the brain reacts slower and becomes less sensitive to sexual and violent material. Young kids especially tend to mimic actions done in cartoons since they do not yet fully understand the consequences. L. Rowell Huesmann, Professor of Social Communication Studies and Psychology, has stated... ' Experiments show that viewing violent videos, films, cartoons or t.v. dramas and violent video games "cause" risk to go up that the observing child will behave seriously aggressively towards others immediately afterwards.'Estimates done by researchers of public health show that while 68% of t.v. content is violent, sexual and not educational, only 15% of shows discussed responsibility and good deeds.
The bond between family is also deeply affected by T.V states Amy Nathan son, Ph.D of Communication Studies and Social Studies. She explains... ' T.V suppresses child and parent communication.' Anti-social behaviour has always been a big problem especially with teenagers and according to Doctor John M. Grohol of Psychology, T.V invokes that behaviour. Grohol says...' Television viewing by children is associated with greater criminality and anti-social behaviour.' Not only does T.V influence children for the worse, according to Professor R. Douglas Fields of Neurology and Physiology, young children who watch too much T.V develop A.D.H.D. Which makes them ‘hyper ‘ and unable to concentrate.
Although t.v. does have some educational and nd kids-friendly shows, the harm significantly out weighs the good, making children more likely to become violent and sexually aware and maybe psychologically harmed. Therefore I believe that T.V to an extent, should be content controlled.

Duck Shooting Persuasive Writing Darryck Hea Some people think that duck shooting is great, however other people believe duck shooting is animal cruelty. I believe duck shooting is animal cruelty.
What some people don’t see is that killing innocent animals is wrong. Animals live a simple life-cycle. They live, reproduce and die. However their lifecycle is interrupted by hunters for their meat. That can cause these animals to loose a stage of their lifecycle. That stage could well be the reproducing stage, and throughout time can lead to extinction. For example, if we miss a the reproducing stage of our lifecycle.
Duck shooting should not be considered a sport. In a sport both sides are aware of whats going on. Sportsman Paul Rodriguez said, “Hunting is not a sport. In a sport, both sides know that their in the game.”
For some people, hunting is for food. But other people see murder. People go for the thrill of catching dinner, like the animals are targets and the meat is the prize. But I think using a camera is the same, except cameras capture beauty, not kill it. Writer Jonathan Safran Foer said, “ If the thrill of hunting is in the hunt, then a camera would do just fine.”
If animals aren’t shot right, or aren’t killed after the first bullet, they suffer. Suffer pain. These animals can only wait to be shot again or bleed out to death. British actor Geffery.R.Russell said, “ Generally even after a multiple pellet hit, these poor disabled creatures aren’t dead.”
So in conclusion, duck shooting is bad and should not be considered a sport. Ducks usually suffer after one pellet hit and bleed out to death if not killed instantly. I am against duck shooting and I think duck shooting is animal cruelty.
